Director Biography – Alice Hjorth
Alice Hjorth is a Danish director who is also a climate activist, a theme that tends to show up in her artistic work. Aside from short films, Hjorth’s artistic portfolio also includes photography, comics, and visual arts. Hjorth has a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Science from Copenhagen University.
Hjorth is behind the art house short film “Little People Living inside My Head” which was shown at 4 festivals and won an award. Hjorth has recently made the scifi short film “Golia” (4 times award winner in LA Independent Women Film Awards, Future of Film Awards, CineTech Future Fest and The IndieFEST, selected for Copenhagen Short Film Festival, Toronto Women Film Festival and Warped Dimension). “Golia” also had the climate crisis as a theme, but with a very different cyberpunk inspired tone and setting. Hjorth also recently made an art film which was shown at the Danish art museum AROS in connection with The United Change Festival with Finnish dance artist Riikka Lakea.
With “Ecocide”, Hjorth tells an intimate story of two siblings that find themselves on opposite sides of the climate crisis politically, with a strong visual style inspired by noir films. A promising new short film from one of Denmark’s most climate inclined new film voices.
