Winner: Best First Time Documentary Film
Synopsis
Martyna, Oliwka, Kordian and Wiktor were patients of Polish psychiatric hospitals as children. As they struggle with their illnesses, they and their loved ones confront the heartless system of child psychiatry.
The screenplay for Anita Bugajska and Janusz Schwertner’s film is based on four stories. Each of them is, in fact, a story about repressed sensitivity, loneliness and an uncompromising world where talking about emotions is still taboo. It’s a reality hidden for years behind a barrier of social shame and fear.
In the background, we show the ruined system of Polish psychiatry, posing the question of how many more dramas are needed for us to finally open our eyes. Our characters are united by their sensitivity. This is a trait that has always been defined as weakness. Is it rightly so? In a world where we drop our masks and stop pretending, sensitivity is beginning to be a strength of character.
