Synopsis
People from different ethnic backgrounds with “difficult” names by Western standards share their experience with moving through the world with an identity that challenges others to simply just say their name. The film is a meditation on identity, otherness, assimilation, community, and ancestral roots.
Director Biography – Mariam Meliksetyan
Mariam Meliksetyan is an Armenian-American filmmaker and actress based in Los Angeles. She has been professionally trained at the prestigious Drama Centre London, UCLA’s School of Theater, Film & Television, and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Having worked as an actress in many independent films, she longed to tell stories from behind the camera as well. Fueled by a lifelong love for cinema and a fascination with documenting the world around her from a young age, she set out to make her directorial debut with the short social docu-film “Say My Name” which she also produced.
