Synopsis
“What Are You Looking At?” is exploring the problematic relationship of our societies with animals. The anthropomorphization of animals in films contributes to ‘human exceptionalism’ provoking further issues in the coexistence of animals with humans.
In “What Are You Looking At?” we explore the story of a moon bear that is trying to find its way in a human dominated world out of its natural habitat.
Director Biography – Chen-Yi Liu
Chen-Yi Liu is a Taiwanese animator and film director currently residing in Belgium. After obtaining her BA in Animation from Taipei National University of the Arts, she has completed her master’s degree in Animation film at LUCA School of Arts in Belgium.
With her traditional drawing and animation background, her recent work focuses on the possibility of disengaging the human gaze imposed on animals in conventional anthropocentric storytelling.
